what nous adds
reading stats Per-book open count and total reading time, viewable from settings.
auto-sleep Configurable timeout from 1–30 minutes, or off. Default 10 min — saves battery when you forget the device.
hidden books Place EPUBs in a .hidden/ folder to keep them out of all lists and recents.
convert all Batch-convert your entire library at once, with per-book progress display.
converted indicator Optional asterisk prefix on books that have already been converted.
battery display Choose between icon only, percentage only, or combined — or turn it off.
list alignment Set menus to left, center, or right alignment — whatever reads better to you.
nav hints Toggle the button hint glyphs on or off to keep the interface clean.

⚠ locked device?

Some Xteink X4s (especially from AliExpress) ship with USB flashing disabled. You must unlock your device before flashing nous. Use the unlock tool at crosspointreader.com →

01unlock (if needed) If your device is locked, use the OTA unlocker tool before proceeding.
02download nous Grab the latest .bin from the Releases page.
03flash Use the flash tools or esptool to flash the .bin to your device.
04add your books Place EPUBs anywhere on the SD card. Fonts in fonts/, hidden books in .hidden/.

Compatible with USB transfer, the Calibre plugin, and the browser-based file manager via Web Serial.
